Technical Program Chair, Steve Bailey, comments on rich DVCon content
"I am glad to report that the interest in participating in DVCon has grown substantially. Clearly, DVCon is the industry's premier conference for design and verification of electronic systems. This year, we invited SPIRIT to participate in the program. I am pleased that they proposed an embedded tutorial for the conference. We have expanded the educational quality of the program through the addition of three embedded tutorials: SPIRIT XML, SystemVerilog DPI and VHDL floating and fixed point packages. We hope you find the combination of the embedded and sponsored tutorials valuable in deepening and expanding your design and verification skills. Technical paper submissions far exceeded expectations. And, the quality of the submissions were so high, that even after expanding the technical program to 3 tracks on Friday, the Technical Program Committee still could not find space for all highly qualified submissions. Hot areas for 2006 are system-level design and verification, SystemVerilog, and formal verification with assertion-based verification. I am excited that 2006 will see the best DVCon technical program yet offered! Thanks to all who are participating and I will see you in San Jose!"

Three dimensions of Design and Verification provided by Gabe Moretti EDA
EDA vendors support the design community on three fronts, or at least they should. They develop, sell, and support tools that enable designers to develop electronic circuits. Their companies implement the designs in various forms of ICs, or on printed circuit boards. In either case suppliers must continue to invest in research and development because designers continually face new challenges with every advance in technology. Training and consulting services is the second dimension EDA vendors must offer. Companies must integrate all new tools into their existing methods. To do this they must fully understand the requirements and capabilities of the tool and may have to modify their procedures in order to both accommodate the new tool as well as take full advantage of its functionality. The third dimension is less visible and unfortunately somewhat neglected by some EDA vendors: standards. The complex flow of design requires standards to support not only design reuse but also ease the integration of tools from various vendors. Accellera has distinguished itself as the most dynamic standard making consortium in the EDA industry since its founding. Its sponsorship of DVCon is one of its most visible acts toward providing the most productive design and verification environment for electronics engineers.
