Greetings from DVCon 2011!

Greetings from the organizers of the 2011 Design and Verification Conference! DVCon is the preeminent conference that concentrates on functional design and verification of electronic systems – from the system level on down. We’re delighted to bring you another valuable conference, rich with information you need to know as you tackle the challenges of developing today’s complex integrated circuit designs and electronic design automation tools. We’re using the survey from last year’s DVCon as a guide to put together a high-quality program that meets, and we hope exceeds, your expectations. From papers and tutorials, to vendor exhibits and lunches, to the keynote and panels, we’ll strive to bring you the highest quality experience ever.

Technical sessions

Your top three requests for more information in the area of design were: system on chip, transaction-level modeling & design, and design for verification. The top three requests in the area of verification were: hardware/software system verification, verification IP & reuse, and design for verification. As paper abstracts and tutorial proposals come in, we’ll look for good quality ones that address these topics – especially design for verification.

Tutorials

You told us the Monday tutorials were a good addition to the program, so we’ll continue them. About half of you liked limited-attendance, hands-on tutorials. The other half liked lecture-style tutorials. We’ll offer some of each. Some of you liked a marketing/sales flavor – some didn’t. If we can provide more information ahead of time, it should help you know what to expect.

Lunch sessions

While you didn’t dislike the lunch presentations, you didn’t like them as much as the rest of the program. We’ll look into how these sessions can be enhanced. A little social time and a chance to catch your breath before the presentations was a good suggestion from some of you.

Exhibits

The majority of you said the exhibit hours were just right, and some good suggestions were offered for us to consider. Some of you said too few EDA vendors showed up – you wanted more vendors. EDA companies will likely enjoy hearing this message.

Keynote Session and Industry Leaders Panel

Most of you enjoyed the industry leaders panel, telling us it was relevant to your work. We’ll seek out a group of high-quality speakers and a pertinent topic for them to discuss.

Venue

Generally, everyone thought the DoubleTree Hotel was OK to very nice, but it was no surprise that paying for parking wasn’t high on anyone’s list.

Social media

You can stay connected before, during, and after DVCon 2011 through various social media tools and networks. Bloggers will no doubt write post of interests. Photos and videos will enrich the reports from DVCon. And you can watch for DVCon announcements, special events, and comments from attendees on Twitter by searching for the hashtag, #DVCon. If you’re involved in design and verification of today’s advanced ICs and you’ve never been to DVCon, make 2011 the year to join us!
